Naming names
NYTimes.com did it again. Possibly the best infographics department on earth. And not just for how they do graphics, but essenatually by how the THINK them: useful, creative and understandable graphics providing a great amount of interesting data. THis time, the topic is how the candidates talks about other in the republican-democrats debates. Again, superb.

A new classic in the USA is to publish every christmas a graphic about how Santa Claus' logistics works. This time has been Wired who has offered a three-page graphic (click on the image to access the PDF), realized by Bryan Christie's studio.

Rafa Höhr, to Grupo Joly
One of the best online infographics artists (and also print) of the world has moved on. Rafa Höhr left the the online graphics team of ELPAIS.com to become the new Design Chief of the Grupo Joly webs (Grupo Joly is a regional newspapers groups of the south of Spain, with papers such as Diario de Cádiz or Diario de Sevilla, among others).
This way he comes back to the group where he began his career. He was infographics artist at Diario de Cádiz, and, after a short time in elmundo.es as one of the first online graphics artists in Spain and the world, he was hired by ELPAIS.com.
I must confess I have a special affection to Rafa, although e haven't met much. But my firsts steps in infographics were having him as reference. Mi first contat with infographics as aas Malofiej staff, and there I could see a Rafa's graphic about all the NATO power (ships, helicopter, planes...). And it impressed me. Then, my first ntership was that summer in Diario de Cádiz, where Rafa had just left. I had no idea about graphics and I need references for all. And all the archive was full with graphics made by him (and Rafa Estrada, whose isometric elements are still being used in the Joly papers). It looked for me imposible to make graphics the way I was seeing there. And, after a time, I realized that it actually was impossible.
I have no more to do that congratulate Grupo Joly for hiring one of the best online infographics artists of the world.

Some of his graphics (not the best ones, but which I've found)
- Juicio a De Juana Chaos
- Atentados 11S
- Grieta en la seguridad de Sony music

Fashions
This is a Bansky drawing that, in my opinion, could be seen in the new infographics fashion to use circles to create size charts (popularized by The New York Times).

Online graphics at the portuguese Publico
A short time ago (don't know exactly when) Público (the portuguese one) redesigned its webpage, converting it in one of the ost abicious of the lusitan country. A web that, as the print edition, has a Guardian look, althought te differences between webs are much bigger. In this new web version, the page includes an infographics section, somethig typical at the big spansih papers, but not so common at the anglosaxon news webs, where they come along in the multimedia section or just inside the related news.
Having an eye over the online graphics and not being an expert on this field myself, I have a bittersweet feeling (but sweeter than bitter). The big sweet point is to have done this section. But looking graphic by graphic my sensation is of irregularity. Mybe this come because I'm used to the great graphics by ELPAIS.com or elmundo.es. But they deserve more time. They've just started and that's more that what I could say.
Congratulations to our neighbours!

Working in the peruvian El Comercio

I could discover on Alberto Cairo's weblog the fantastic blog of the infographics section of El Comercio (Peru), La Combi Visual, very intersting for the graphics they upload and to discover the procedures they follow. A good example of it is this slideshow, where you can see how was done the graphic presented above
