Visual Curriculum

Some days ago Leif Steen sent me this visual CV made by himself. As you could notice, it's inspired by the graphic winner of the last Peter Sullivan award, The Ebb and Flow of Movies, by The New York Times, very similar to its print version.

This remind me some graphic curricula I saw some weeks ago. One of them was at ColourLovers, this one by Greg Dizzia.

This curriculum is also available at Jumping Jester infographics, Aníbal Maiz's blog. There you can also find this opther example, by Jonathan Kaczynski:

Aníbal, found it at another blog, Isopixel, which writes about 30 creative curricula. One of them, this one by Michael Anderson.

But, who really summarized this 30 CVs was webdesignerdepot.com. And here they are. This one is one of them.

What would you send to Malofiej? (V): Universidad de Santa Catarina (Brazil)

Malofiej is not just for professional media. The academic world is also a great place to look at when we talk about infographics. The students from Chapel Hill have already been awarded several times on infographics competitions. This time, Tattiana Teixieira, professor and researcher at the Universidade de Santa Catarina in Brazil, sends some infographics produced in the academic activity of her university. The graphic opening this post was made by the journalism student Rogério Moreira Júnior, with the orientation of professors Sandro Galarça and Tattiana Teixieira.

This second graphic was made by Diego Kerber (Journalism) and Grégorio Bacelar Lameira (Graphic Design), under the orientation of Galarça and Teixeira. Was published in the magazine Zero, a publication of the Universidade de Santa Catarina.

Many thanks to professor Teixeira for sending this graphics, adn remember that you don't need to publish on media to send something to this section.

And tomorrow, El Heraldo, from Barranquilla (Colombia)

They're coming...

They're still stdying but they've been awarded at professional contests and even recognized by Time Magazine.
The new group of Chapel Hill students ar e also high-quality products, as you can see atAlberto Cairo's twitter (@albertocaio).

Ellen Mignoni is an advanced case. She's a postgrade student on her thesis. But this multimedia piece where ALL has been produced by herself is a jewel from the campus.

Monica Ulmanu developed this project. It's not finished, and still need things as a preloader. But as Cairo wonder... What grade does a student project like this deserve?

I'll upload more, but if you're eager to take a look to some more just visit some old examples. And be prepared. Young ones come to stay.

Infografreaks IV

Alberto Cairo has uploaded again several projects of his pupils on his blog.
Tis time, the topic was the earthquake of Pisco, Peru, which happened some months agop. All the works are clean and with the high usual level. An example on how important is to have a good teacher.
It's not the first time I speak about Chapel Hill, and how there are plans to have adecuate university studies about graphics and design there, and how hard is to find where to study these disciplines in Spain (don't know how is the situation abroad). We don't have a career or even a "branch" if you want to guide your career to an Infographics Department.

Maybe the University of Navarra (private) could be the best way in order to do it, but also there you ahve to "struggle" to learn: you've got the join the Malofiej team as staff (an excelent place to learn) and there is an optative about infographics (where there have been teachers as Jaume Serra, Zarracina and Baptista and now Josemi Benitez). Tehre's also a subject called Visual Communication in Journalism (Mario Tascón and Tomás Ondaraa are former teachers and also Miguel Urabayen).
It's not too much, Just two subject and both optatives. But much more than other places in Spain. And laearning about infographics is not important just for those who want to be infographics artist, but also if you want to be journalist, cause infographics are gonna be part of your job.

New appointment with Chapel Hill

It's going usual in this blog to advice about watching the new works of Alberto Cairo's pupils at Chapel Hill. This time was free subject. Mi favorite, this time, has been Lawson Parker, with this graphic about the kinds of muppets in Sesame Street, a doubt I had since I was a toddler. I must confess I really suffered when I put on the place of the man being the yellow big bird hand up.
Alberto has also actualized his weblog with other contents, as a a book review, Mapping the News

'Freaks' again

If you like to suffer and enjoy the envy, Alberto Cairo has uploaded the second task of the year of his pupils in Chapel Hill. This time, it's focused on Iwo Jima battle (the one of the flag!), in WWII.
